Jason Loki Athen, was born in rural Clearfield, Pennsylvania in 1975. Jason showed tremendous artistic talent and a passion for the arts at an early age. His early inspiration came from animation, which shifted his focus to the human anatomy and muscle structure. Although art was his first and enduring passion, he pursued an education in the culinary arts, as well as in fiber optics. All the while, he found himself returning to painting as his escape.

After moving to Vancouver in 2007, Jason began painting full time. While attending Emily Carr University of Art & Design, Jason was able to hone his talents and truly find his artistic voice. This newly awakened excitement lead Jason to try many different styles from abstract to surrealism to pop art, and everywhere in between.

Jason’s paintings are heavily textured and beautifully colored, to evoke the passion and energy of his work. Each piece is often started by a simple photograph of people or places around Vancouver. Themes are formed by drawing inspiration from childhood experiences and from his day to day life.

“This new collection has some fantasy aspects to it and relaxing calm parts as well. These are places I have been to and some I made up. I’m attempting and exploring what my world would look like if I could enter into my dreams & fantasies”.
